It’s my favorite time of month again! The time where I come home and my Play! By Sephora box is waiting at the door for me. If you haven’t heard of it yet, it’s a $10 monthly subscription with Sephora where they send you 6 mini sized products every month for you to try out! Much like Birchbox, Allure Beauty Box, Ipsy Glam Bag, and the list goes on. I had been wanting to try one of these and from what I have heard they are all a good choice! I chose to go with the Sephora box because I shop there a lot so I wanted to test out specific brands and products that they carry. Not only that but they send you a 50 point Beauty Insider Points card that can be redeemed with any purchase (in store or online) until the end of the following month. If you’re not a regular Sephora shopper this might not mean much to you but for someone like me it’s great!
Anyway, let’s take a look at what I received in my box this month!
Tarte Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush in Paaarty
I wasn’t too excited to receive this in my box this month because I already own this blush, but that’s ok because whenever this happens I usually pass the product onto a friend or my mom. I’ve been using this blush for a while now and I love it so much. It’s buildable and has a “silky” finish. It’s the blush that I use in the winter because it contains no sparkles/shimmer and also goes great with my more pale complexion.
Fresh Sugar Advanced Therapy Lip Treatment in Dream
I absolutely love Fresh’s lip treatments! They always make my lips feel so soft and healthy so I was very excited to try this shade. As expected, this lip treatment provided nothing less than what Fresh claims it will. My lips felt so hydrated and the fine lines in them I get so annoyed with were noticeably softened. As for the color, I am obsessed. It is sheer so it’s more like an enhancement in color which I prefer. I more times than not go for a natural look with my makeup, I personally don’t like myself in lipsticks so this is right up my alley! I’m so excited to add this to my everyday glam routine.
Tarte Deep Dive Cleansing Gel Rainforest of the Sea
I never expected Tarte to have as good skincare as they do. Every time I try a skincare product by them I am impressed. That statement holds true for this facial cleanser right here. This cleanser definitely removes product and is gentle enough for everyday use and I like how soft it makes my skin feel. I’m not sure yet if I’m going to purchase it and add it to my full time skincare routine because it might be a little too gentle for my oily/acne prone skin. I can definitely see this being a great product for someone with normal or sensitive skin.
Kora Organics Noni Glow Face Oil
When I saw this product in my box I got very excited. I have never tried anything from this line before and I love trying out new products (which is one of the reasons why I even get the box). The directions says to apply after cleansing and before moisturizing. I apply it during that time but only as night, I have oily skin so during the day I prefer to only wear moisturizer and not an oil as well. It contains rosehip, pomegranate and sea buckthorn oils which are great for moisturizing and also as antioxidants. When I apply this product at night I wake up in the morning with soft, glowing skin. I can see this oil becoming a favorite of mine…
Josie Maran Whipped Argan Oil Face Butter
I use the Josie Maran Light Argan Oil in my current nighttime routine so I was pretty excited to try another product from the line. Instead of my usual night cream, I swapped it out for this one. The combination of the oil and the face butter did make my skin very soft. I was a bit skeptical of this product because when I see “butter” I think of a very thick product that doesn’t fully absorb and just kind of sits on your skin. But that’s not the case with this face butter! It melts right into the skin, making it suitable enough to be a daily moisturizer in my opinion.
Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil
Last but not least “this month’s bonus” is a hair mask by Christophe Robin. Again another brand that I have never tried before so I was eager to try it out. When it comes to hair products I always always always have a hard time finding ones that work for me. I have fine, oily hair that is very easily weighed down but at the same time my hair is dry and has a decent amount of frizz so you can see the problem here… as for this mask I like how it made my hair feel! It was definitely very soft and the frizz was smoothed out. I styled my hair as I normally do and it looked great! A few hours into the day it started to fall flat and get a little of that separated look that dirty hair gets. As a side note this happens to my hair even when I use shampoos and conditioners designed for oily scalps. I definitely liked the mask and thought it was much needed for my dry ends but it’s not something I would personally buy considering the behavior of my hair.
Along with the cute little sack that your goodies come in, inside the box is mini a poster. The one side is always different, I have received ones that list tips, application steps, and even social media challenges for the month. Whatever they choose to put on for that month is either fun or informational, I really like this part of the box. On the other side of the poster are all the products that you have received in your box along with its description and instructions. Overall, I have been subscribed to Play! By Sephora for almost a year now and I do not see myself ever giving it up. In my opinion it’s great, for only $10 a month I get to try some really amazing products to find out what I like before actually committing to buying a full size version of it.
When testing out new skincare products I do not try them all out at once. I keep my current routine and add in only one new product at a time so that I can see its results. If you try everything all at once you won’t be able to tell what actually is working for you as well as if something breaks you out, you won’t know which product it was. Getting new products is fun and exciting and believe me I want to use them all as soon as I get them, but it’s simply not an effective way to test things out.
